Here’s a list of the most common questions we get asked.
WHAT AREAS DO YOU SERVICE?
We travel far and wide to help dogs, but as of January 2024, we primarily focus on the North-West area of Victoria.
Ballarat, Melton, Hoppers crossing, Daylesford, Kyneton, Ballan, Macedon, Castlemaine and every suburb in between.
We will still be making trips to the inner suburbs, but you may have to wait some time to see us. Check out our recommended trainers further down in the FAQ, to see who’s in your area.
IS MY DOG TOO OLD TO BE TRAINED?
No. Contrary to popular belief, you can in fact teach an old dog new tricks. But it is important to understand that if your dog has had behavioural issues for a long time, that will take time to untangle and change.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO TRAIN MY DOG?
Every dog is different and learn at a different pace. Our aim is to make you as the handler as proficient as possible, so you can train your dog as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Below is a breakdown of prices on our services:
In-person private sessions
$250 (inc. GST) for an introductory session. This is compulsory for all new clients. After that we charge $160 (inc. GST) per hour, or we can offer discounted rates if you book mulitple sessions.
For online consults, we charge $80 per hour.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO TRAIN MY DOG?
“How long is a piece of string?”
This is something we get asked all the time and it is unfortunately impossible to answer. It depends on the breed, age, drive, prior learning, early socialisation, dog’s history, genetic predisposition, health issues and so on and so forth. We always aim to find the most effective way for your dog to learn, so you can achieve results as quickly as possible.
DO YOU HAVE ANY RESTRICTIONS ON THE TYPE OF DOG YOU'LL WORK WITH?
While we specialise in high drive dogs, puppy development and aggression. rehabilitation, we take on any breed of dog and any issue.
DO YOU TRAIN WITH POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT?
We train with all four quadrants of operant conditioning, to create the best result, as quickly, clearly and as LIMA as possible.
WHAT DOES 'LIMA' MEAN?
LIMA is an abbreviation for the term “Least Invasive, Minimally Aversive.”
This means that we acknowledge the need for both appetitive and aversive motivators, through both reinforcement and punishment. But our goal is always to work with as few aversives as possible, in order for the dog to experience minimal stress during training.
DO YOU OFFER GROUP CLASSES?
We are currently in the process of finding a place to run group classes. In the past we have offered puppy, obedience and reactive dog classes.
Follow us on social media to see when classes are made available!
DO YOU OFFER BOARD AND TRAIN PROGRAMS?
A board and train program is when the dog gets sent to a trainer, for a specified period of time, for an intensive bootcamp training program.
Our aim is to be able to offer Melbourne’s best board and train program sometime in the first half of 2024. Follow us on social media to get updates!
DO YOU COME TO ME OR DO I HAVE TO COME TO YOU?
In most cases we travel to your home and conduct the session there. If you live very far away, we will usually organise to meet halfway, or do an Online Consult instead. If you wish to travel to us, we will happily accomodate that.
YOU ARE TOO FAR AWAY, CAN YOU RECOMMEND A TRAINER CLOSER TO ME?
We have a wide network of other trainers we work with here in Victoria.
Below is a list of people we recommend, separated by area of Victoria.
These are trainers we know really well and would trust our own dogs with. This list will be updated once in a while.
